What is a business or organizational constellation?
Organizational constellations grew out of the family constellation method of Bert Hellinger and are now used by facilitators worldwide, many of them members of the International Systemic Constellations Association. A business is a system too: it has founders, departures, loyalties, an order of who came first, and things that are never said in meetings. When that order is disturbed, the symptoms show up as turnover, stalled decisions, a partnership that keeps fraying, or a founder who cannot let go.
In a constellation, the elements of the business are represented in the room, by people in a group or by figurines one-to-one, and positioned as they feel. What the arrangement reveals is usually immediate and frequently uncomfortable in a useful way. Lebanese family businesses, where the family system and the business system are the same people, often find this work especially clarifying.
